Marshlands Conservancy in Concept Phase for New Nature Center

The County is Exploring Improvements While Continuing to Protect the Conservancy’s Natural Environment

Marshlands Conservancy in Rye is a 147-acre protected wildlife sanctuary that welcomes more than 20,000 visitors each year. At the heart of the Conservancy is its Nature Center, which features year-round exhibits and hosts a variety of children’s environmental education programs. The current 900-square-foot building has served visitors for more than five decades without significant updates. Westchester County is in the concept phase of a potential renovation to explore ways to better support current levels of programming, exhibits and community events while continuing to protect the Conservancy’s natural and historic resources.

Before moving forward with any facility improvements, Westchester County will conduct careful reviews during the future design phase to ensure the environment is protected, wildlife is not disrupted and natural and historic resources, including the Boston Post Road Historic District in which the Conservancy is located, are preserved.
